Who is Guru?

Guru in simple words is the teacher, mentor, guide, counselor, adviser or torch-bearer. Our life can be divided into two parts, one is materialistic and the other is spiritual. Each kind of life has their respective form of Gurus or teachers.

The day we are born on this planet, we met our first Guru, mother. She teaches us to speak the first word and much more. Then we have a father who teaches about several principles of life. Then grandparents and other relatives. As we grow, we get teachers in school or gurukuls to teach us many other subjects.

So, all of the Guru’s mentioned above teach us about materialistic life and lessons related to it. Now, what is so special about spiritual Guru. Does everyone has a spiritual Guru too? Is it important to have a spiritual Guru? What is the role of a spiritual Guru?

Firstly, a spiritual Guru is extremely important for everyone. You must try to prepare yourself by developing faith, quest for a Guru and find them. It’s not necessary, everyone is not blessed with a Guru but everyone can be blessed with a Guru. Furthermore, if you wish to know about the value, importance and how special the Guru can be in your life, you must read the article

Until we have a Guru, we are living a life without real goal, a life of unawareness and simply going with the flow without knowing where it will lead us. At last, life will end and we are going to leave the colossal planet in suspense. Hence, the mighty opportunity missed!

Spiritual Guru as said in the first section, is the one who establishes the link between the supreme God. He is the one who introduces us to the creator of this universe. He is the one who shows us the path leading to the ultimate God.

However, most people don’t have faith, or cannot digest something which seems out of this world but is real. The fact is that, Guru can actually bring a drastic change in your life if you have complete faith. In other words, if you follow the principles of Guru with faith, then no one can stop you from reaching your goal.

Another, most special thing is that Guru is not a common person residing in a human body but much more than that. If you are a true disciple, you feel that protection everytime. No evil spirit or wicked minds can harm you if you follow your Guru’s instructions carefully. There is much more to this, we can discuss with examples in a separate blog, if you want. The Occasion of Guru Poornima

Poornima is the occasion of full moon day in the month of Ashadha as Hindu Calendar. The day is also observed as Vyasa Purnima as it celebrates the birthday of Ved Vyasa. Further, as known to us, the great sage Ved Vyasa was the first Adi Guru or teacher of Sanatan Dharma. All the devotees, people and followers of God celebrate this day by showing respect towards one’s Guru.

However, it is a big occasion for devotees which is observed in India, Bhutan and Nepal. It is usually celebrated in a special way where disciples visit their Guru’s place. Devotees as a token of Guru Dakshina (donation) take various things as per their convenience at Guru’s place. No one actually can repay Guru’s blessings but Guru Dakshina is just a sweet ritual on Guru Poornima for self satisfaction.
